Current term's curriculum activities for the MORNING class.

SummerTerm

Literacy

 

Narrative: Stories about fantasy worlds, Stories from a range of cultures/Predictable patterned language, the story of Jake and Bones.

Poetry: Poems on a theme

Non-fiction: Recount (fact and fiction) Growing a bean. A day in the life of an RSPCA inspector.

 

Numeracy 

 

Counting partitioning and calculating.

Securing number facts, understanding shape.

Handling data and measure.

Calculating measuring and understanding shape.

Securing number facts, relationships and calculating.

 

Science

Growing plants and the environment.

* To recognise and name some common plants.

* To understand that all living things should be treated with respect.

* To know how to distinguish a living thing from a non-living thing.

* To know that living things have certain requirements.

* To know that plants have roots, stems, leaves and flowers.

* To know that most plants grow from seeds.

* To observe the changes in a growing plant.

* To make simple measurements.

* To take information from a chart.

* To know that roots change as they grow.

* To know that different plants can have different types of roots.

* To know that plants need water to survive.

* To know that green plants need light to grow.

* To carry out a simple investigation.

* To know that plants provide a range of foods.

* To be able to match some foods to their plant of origin.

* To know that some foods are prepared directly from plants.

* To know that there is a wide variety of fruits.

* To know that some foods are processed by humans, and some are taken directly from the plant.

Followed by two units on light and dark, and sound and hearing.

Homework will go out on a Friday and needs to be handed in on the following Thursday morning.

 

 

 

 

 

Current term's curriculum activities for the AFTERNOON class.

Foundation Subjects

D & T:  - The children will find out the mechanisms involved in making pictures move and different reasons and methods for doing this.

R.E. – The children will work with Mrs Grainger to find out about some of the important stories that Christians believe Jesus told. They will also learn about caring within different religions.

Geography: - The children will learn about the features of their local environment and how they look on maps and in the real world.

History : - The children will find out about holidays in the past and compare them to holidays people take today.

ICT: The children will continue developing the skills involved in using digital imaging equipment and learn how to manipulate and publish images they have created.

Art: The children will explore the shapes and forms of scultpture and create their own sculptures.

PSHE: The children will work on two topics, the first will focus on relationships that are formed between people and how they can influence them in their own lives. They will also look at the world/environment around them and some of the issues surrounding looking after this environment.

Music: The children will continue to work with Mrs Olney, this term we will accompany our singing with percussion instruments.

P.E.  The children will develop their bat and ball, catching and throwing, balancing and running skills.
