Current term's curriculum activities for the MORNING class.

Summer Term

Literacy 

Non-Fiction, writing Non-chronological reports and Information texts. Poetry unit- Silly stuff, looking at nonsense poems , riddles and limericks. Narrative unit, writing extended stories.

Numeracy

Counting, partitioning and calculating, looking at problems and solving puzzles. Estimating and rounding. Calculating measuring and understanding shape, looking at money, measuring and time. Data handling, using lists and tables. Securing number facts and understanding shape, patterns and relationships involving numbers and shapes. Securing number facts and calculating, multiplication and division.

Science

 

Variation:  Observe and recognise simple characteristics of plants and animals. Observe similarities between humans. Explore human variation making observations and comparisons. That plants are similar to each other. Differences between children can be measured, eg foot size.

Plants and Animals in the Local Environment: Children will learn that there are different plants and animals in the local environment. Differences in local habitats. Flowering plants produce seeds. What do plants need to grow, how can you test this? Recognise when a comparison is unfair. 

 

Homework

 

Homework will be handed out on a Monday and needs to be handed in on a Friday morning.

Current term's curriculum activities for the AFTERNOON class.

Foundation Subjects

R.E. -  Moses- the story of Moses birth, how was Moses shown to be special? Celebrations- How do people celebrate, which religious celebrations do we know about?

History: When do we have holidays? What were they like in the past? Where did people go? What did they wear? What do souvenirs tell us about the past?

Geography: Why are eyes important? What is the eye like? How can sight be changed? What does an optician do? Learn about Vision Aid and its work overseas.

ICT: Use search menus, search using an index, use search techniques to find information.  Routes- Use keys to make a floor turtle move forward. Enter a sequence of instructions. Develop and record sequences of instructions to control the floor turtle and predict and test results.

Art: Draw buildings from first hand observation, Look at differences and similarities between buildings. Design a large scale mural.

D.T: Look at different puppets, how are they made? Look at basic sewing techniques

PSHE:  What goes into my body? Where do things go when they enter my body? Injections, feeling ill and getting better. Taking medicines safely.

Music: Exploring sounds
